For All We Know
A sea horse dancing near the ocean’s edge
To the breaking forms of waves lifting a song
In the virulence of waves coming under getting closer
The seas rose and they swelled with gray definition
And the sea horse came nearer and chancing the shore
His song sang out in simple cascades of natural cadence
His tiny voice standing on the higher sand
Singing, singing out, as if to save the world
Who was there to hear him?
Who could say they completely understood?
Then he was going back so deliberately
To the rough ocean going back giving off light
Throwing golden spirals of kindest resonance
Now going down into the last waves
Casting his infinite arms outward
Impressing all of us, as he does
God could be a sea horse
For all we know
