Submission Guidelines - Currently We are not accepting submissions!

Note: Usually, starting 2 weeks before publication of each issue, we hold any submissions and do not read them until after the publication of that issue of the magazine!

  • We are now accepting and reading submissions continuously!  We were getting so many submissions that we needed to put some restrictions on when we would accept submissions.  We have lifted those restrictions and will be accepting, reading and considering poems continuously.

  • We prefer that you submit your poems via email as an attachment in rich text format (rtf), PDF or Open Office format odt - preferably rich text format.   Note, most word processors, such as MS Word will let you save your file as rich text format, rtf.  An rtf (rich text format) file can be read by any word processor and that's why we prefer this most!

  • We will accept from 3 to 6 submissions at any one time. You may submit further poems again in 30 days.

  • Note: We are not currently accepting submissions in preperation for the next release of the magazine.  We will begin accepting submissions again at the end of this month.

  • You can submit your poems via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and as mentioned above, you can send your poems as attachments in MS Word, PDF, Rich Text Format(rtf) or Open-Office format - we prefer Rich Text Format(rtf).  This will be the best way to ensure that your poems look the same when we receive them as you intended the poem to appear.  Otherwise, we find that poems sent in the body of an email message or using the contact form on this site, end up looking different than the way you intended the poem to appear.

  • We must have a valid email address and name/pen name or we cannot use your poetry submission(s).

  • Please also read the poems written by the staff and the other poems posted here on this site to get an idea as to the kind of poems we publish.

  • When submitting poetry for publication, via email, please use for the subject of the email, "Word Salad Poetry Submissions."

  • We would ask that you include your name in the file name if you are submitting your poems as an attachment and it is preferable to remove spaces in the file name.  Also, please put all your poems that you are submitting and your cover letter in that one file.  So, for example, if I was submitting a set of poems, I'd name the file BruceWhealtonPoetrySubmissionWordSalad.rtf

  • We won't be very, very picky, if you don't follow each and every guideline to the letter.  The prior bullet point is just a suggestion that makes it easier for me to keep track of submissions and who submitted what.
