Word Salad Now More Than Just a Quarterly Magazine!
Check out some of our other publications from the Menu on the left or the top!
Word Salad publishes a number of poetry collections in addition to our main quarterly publication entitled "Word Salad Poetry Magazine." My name is Bruce Whealton and I am the Publisher and co-editor of Word Salad Poetry Magazine. I am also the publisher of all these different poetry collections that you will find here. I have been exploring the ways and options that exist for publishing online e-books. To many, the word ebook may mean different things. As you'll see in these two sentences, I've spelled ebook differently. I think both spellings are ok. An ebook could be interactive or it could be a book that just happens to exist online and it may or may not be available for download.
So, on this website, in addition to our quarterly poetry magazine, you will find several poetry collections.
Check back often because there will be more E-books/Poetry Collections added. In addition, some of the existing ebooks will either be updated or new editions of the ebooks will be published.
About These Publications
Article by Bruce Whealton - Publisher, Co-editor, Web Designer/Developer for Word Salad
In addition to being a poet and co-editor for this publication, I am a web designer/developer and so I wanted to combine those interests and create something unique in the way of web poetry publications. The poetry collections, or e-books that you see listed on the left menu on this page, use the Flash Player on the web to create a rich internet application - that is to feature interactivity and to simulate the real-world equivalent of an online book or magazine. These books are fully illustrated, in full color.
You interact with these online books by flipping through the pages, similar to flipping of pages when reading a book or magazine. In fact, the books have sound effects to simulate this effect with page turning sounds.
Currently, most of these books online also feature background music to add to the atmospheric effects of reading the poems. I chose music and sound loops that work reflect what I felt when reading the poems. This feature of course is different than what you'd see in a typical book or magazine in the real world, for the most part. Some cards these days do have sound effects, I've noticed. Note, my use of the "real world" to indicate, as opposed to the virtual world of the web/internet.
In the future, I am looking at including video as well, within the pages of the books.
So, do check back here often for more exciting publications, with new features!
Thanks,
Bruce
