I absolutely love kids, kids of all kinds, sizes, shapes, attitudes and abilities. I am, in fact, the largest, silliest kid you will ever meet. So I think that viewing life from a kid's perspective is probably the wisest thing that an adult can do, and it is something I often strive for in my writing. Whether I have succeeded or not is up to you. Here is a collection of some of my Triond poems about kids, for kids, acceptable to share with kids, or touch on parenting in general. I hope that they provide you with a smile. Father of a Poet - written with pride and delight knowing my oldest daughter wants to be a poet as well. A Pirate's Line – Written for National Talk Like a Pirate Day, A tale of a pirate and a father's dreams for his son. The Legend of Jack O'Lantern – my first Halloween poem, and an example of didactic poetry. Pick Me A Winner – a father and daughter conversation. Do Things Differently – a lesson I hope my kids learn before I did. I have shared this with both of them, and it made one laugh, and one cry, I am not sure what this says about their personalities. Musical Memories – Songs and artists that filled my life since I was a kid. My own children think some of the older songs are cool, other are weird, and a couple are 'stupid'. ;-) Why Dogs Sniff Butts – My most popular piece of writing on line by far. Go figure. I heard the story when I was a kid, from my grandfather, and have since learned that it has been around nearly forever. Get Out The Vote – The single most important responsibility Americans have, so do not waste it. The recent election was both educational, and interesting to kids. Renegade, Rosebud, Radiance and Rosebud – Secret Service Code names for President Obama and family. My daughters are both fascinated with Obama. The Day the TV Channels Crossed – A televised fantasy for all ages. Parenting By Heart – A moment between my daughter and myself. The Evolution of Medicine – A brief explanation of how medicine has changed. On Your 11th Birthday – A Love Poem for my oldest daughter. On Your 7th Birthday - A Love Poem for my younger daughter. Egg-Frying Hot – Some days it does seem that hot. I really did try this as a kid. Dear Santa, Let Me Explain! - Talking my way out of trouble yet again. There you have it, a few poems that are safe to share with the PG and PG-13 crowd. Next time, a collection of poems for grown-ups ;-)
